UX Scores
UX Scores are tailored measurement instruments that capture the user experience of digital products objectively, reliably and validly. Unlike standardized metrics, they are tailored individually to your company, your products and your target group and enable a precise, comparable measurement of the user experience across different studies and contexts.
The challenge of objective UX measurement: why standardized metrics are not enough
Many companies are faced with the challenge of measuring the user experience of their digital products objectively, reliably and validly. Standardized UX metrics often fall short here, as they do not fully capture the specific requirements and expectations of the individual user groups and also do not take into account the strategic objectives of the company.
Personalized UX Scores: Analysis tailored to your company and your target group
We create and validate personalized UX Scores for you that are tailored to your company, your products and services, and your target group. In doing so, we pay particular attention to the typical methodological context in which the data is collected, for example, whether the score is used in qualitative one-on-one interviews or in quantitative surveys.
At the beginning of the process, we hold a workshop with you in which we compile all the existing information that is relevant for the score. This includes strategic guidelines (e.g. brand guide, design guide) and conceptual considerations (e.g. focus on aesthetic appeal, functionality, reputation), as well as existing findings and insights. If necessary, it is worthwhile to collect specific data for the score at this point. We then design a UX score that we validate and optimize step by step to ensure that you receive meaningful insights.

FAQs
What are UX Scores and what is the difference to standardized questionnaires such as SUS or NPS?
UX Scores are tailored measurement instruments that are designed specifically for a company, a product and a target group. Standardized questionnaires such as the System Usability Scale (SUS), the Net Promoter Score (NPS) or the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) are generic and enable industry comparisons but may measure dimensions that are irrelevant for a specific product. Individual UX Scores are more sensitive to product-specific quality dimensions and therefore deliver more precise recommendations for action.
Who are UX Scores suitable for and from when is developing your own score worthwhile?
An individual UX Score is worthwhile when a company wants to measure UX regularly and comparably across different studies, for example to demonstrate the success of optimizations or to establish internal KPIs. For one-time measurements or initial UX surveys, we first recommend validated standard questionnaires such as the SUS or UEQ, as these can be used immediately. An individual score is an investment; it pays off over several measurement points and becomes more valuable with each survey.
How many participants are needed to collect a UX Score?
The optimal number depends on the chosen survey context, i.e. whether the score is used in qualitative individual interviews or quantitative surveys. We advise you individually on the appropriate sample size to ensure valid and meaningful results.
How are the results of a UX Score prepared and how can improvements be made visible over time?
You receive clear reports that present the UX Score at the overall level and by sub-dimensions. Decisive for long-term value is comparability: since the score is used identically in each survey, improvements after optimization measures can be read off directly. We recommend re-collecting the score at least after major releases or redesigns, in order to objectively demonstrate the effect of UX measures – both internally and to stakeholders.
How is an individual UX Score developed and how long does it take?
The development of a UX Score typically goes through three phases. First, in a requirements analysis, the relevant UX dimensions are identified that are meaningful for the specific product and the target group, for example efficiency, orientation, trust or emotional quality. From these, precisely fitting items (questions or statements) are formulated and tested with real users in a pilot survey for comprehensibility and discriminatory power. The score is then statistically validated before it goes into regular use. The development phase usually takes four to eight weeks. After that, a measurement instrument is available that can be used as often as desired without renewed development effort.
